Vahlken First Severance
The Rule of Two requires that an apprentice become powerful enough to defeat his master in single combat, so that each generation surpasses the previous one. She was the first to have to meet this requirement.
Their conflict arose from mutual distrust. As his master’s body grew weaker with age, he sought to unlock the secret of eternal life. He was convinced that his apprentice was simply waiting for his strength to wane so she could claim an easy victory—an attitude he viewed as a violation of the principle that only the strongest deserve to survive. For her part, she saw his quest for immortality as a cowardly refusal to pass on his legacy and a betrayal of the very foundations of the order he had created.
Their ideological conflict reached its climax during a final duel on the sands of Ambria. Outmatched in physical combat, the apprentice turned to dark sorcery. Drawing on the energy accumulated beneath the planet’s surface, she summoned a black mist that she solidified into serpentine tendrils. A power so demanding that it would have shattered the minds of most beings capable of wielding it. When she hurled them at her master, one struck its target, disintegrating his arm on contact and causing him to collapse into the sand in agony.
Physically defeated, the master then destroyed his own body in order to project his consciousness into his apprentice’s mind. The invasion breached her mental defenses and briefly took control of her vision. But she repelled the assault and condemned his spirit to wander in the void, thereby claiming the title of Dark Lord for herself once and for all.
The Vahlken First Severance pays tribute to that defining moment.
Its engraving, created using a double-depth process, gives rise to elegant, serpentine tendrils that wind their way across the entire hilt. The raised reliefs rise above deeply carved areas, finished in a matte ash-black that evokes the dark mist summoned during the duel. From the pommel to the Vahlken’s signature ventilated octagonal hilt, these motifs coil around the saber like the frozen remnants of forbidden magic.
Every detail brings to mind the moment when the student overthrew his master and a new era began.
This duel marked the first rupture in the sacred bond between master and apprentice. It proved the doctrine through combat and gave rise to a shadowy lineage that would endure for nearly a millennium.
That is why this saber is called " First Severance."
